Bene flies 353km triangle in dust-filled sky!

On Tuesday 23 February 2021, team pilot Bene Bös flew a 353km FAI triangle in 6h 8min on his Luna2 23.
The southern winds have brought Saharan sand into the atmosphere across swathes of Europe, and his flight was in the eerie, orange light this causes.
He flew with the powerful FlyProducts Rider / Vittorazi Moster Plus My20 combo, which made the nil-wind launch with 35 litres of fuel onboard – unassisted – manageable.
Bene has flown several big FAI triangle flights, expanding his records to 200 and then to 250km last year. 353km is a new and impressive milestone, and already exceeds the 300km goal he set for himself for this year!
The forecast showed different wind directions in different altitude levels, so Bene planned his altitude accordingly to maximise the day's potential, flying at the maximum permitted 5000m altitude during the second leg to avoid what would have been a strong headwind in the lower levels.
Bene writes, "As my average speed was so high I expanded my flight and pushed up to 353km, so exactly 100 km more than my last big triangle. When I was on the final glide to the airfield and realised that I made it I was so happy! It's an awesome feeling to swoop down and get back to the ground after 6h 8min to finally pee!"
He landed with five litres of fuel still onboard, so even bigger flights are possible. We look forward to seeing what comes next, and congratulate Bene on this achievement!
